Bar Ilan Software Support - Abbreviations

To search for words in both abbreviated and unabbreviated form (e.g., to find רמב"ם, רמבם, רמ"בם, and the like), do one of the following:

    Type the word for which you’re searching in either abbreviated or unabbreviated form with a plus sign before it — for example, +רמבם or +רמב"ם.
    Type the word for which you’re searching in either abbreviated or unabbreviated form, double-click it, and then click With/Without ".
•    This option is only available in Advanced searches.

Automatically Locating Abbreviated Forms
    You can have Bar Ilan Responsa automatically locate both abbreviated and unabbreviated forms of a particular search ex pression – for example,מצוות עשה שהזמן גרמא as well as מ"ע שהזמן גרמא, מ"ע שהז"ג, etc. To do so:
 
1. Type the unabbreviated form of the ex pression you want to find – for example, מצוות עשה שהזמן גרמא.

2. Click Include Abbreviations at the bottom of the Search screen.
 
•    If you want to filter out certain abbreviations, in Bar Ilan Software click Filter Search Results, and then filter out the undesired forms.
3. Click Search.
 
•    This option is only available in Regular and Advanced searches.
